Ewes generally do not require assistance in childbirth. It is only needed if the fetus is in an abnormal position or the newborn's head is too large (broad). The correct position of lambs is recognized in the same way as the position of calves being born. When one or both legs are tucked in or the head is turned, the bladder should be pierced, if it has not burst before, and then, after careful washing and disinfection of the sheep's hands and anus, try to withdraw the fetus with two fingers and put it in the correct position. Then, by lightly pulling the legs, help the tired ewe to dislodge the lamb. If the newborn's head is too large, use flat palms to spread the sheep's vulva to extract the head, then gently pull the fetus by the legs.
